Well-i-Hole Farm Campsite – A Scenic Campervan Stay Near Uppermill

We recently spent two nights at Well-i-Hole Farm Campsite near Greenfield and Uppermill, and what a lovely location for a campervan weekend!

With beautiful countryside views, friendly new owners, electric hook-up pitches and walks straight from the campsite, it’s a great base for exploring Uppermill and the surrounding Saddleworth countryside.

For us, a good campervan weekend is all about somewhere to relax, beautiful scenery and being able to head out walking without having to drive anywhere. Well-i-Hole Farm certainly delivered when it came to the views and walking opportunities.

The location was one of the biggest attractions for us. Being able to leave the campervan parked up and explore the surrounding countryside on foot made it a lovely base for a relaxing weekend.

Our Arrival and Campervan Pitch

We’d booked a grass pitch with electric hook-up for two nights, costing £56 in total.

Unfortunately, after all the rain, the grass was extremely wet and we managed to get the campervan stuck! Thankfully, we managed to get moving again.

The new owners couldn’t have been more helpful. As all the hardstanding pitches were occupied, they found us an alternative spot with a mixture of hardstanding and grass.

It was really appreciated, and throughout our stay the owners were friendly, approachable and always around if anyone needed anything.

The campsite is under new management, and it was lovely to see how welcoming they were.

Beautiful Views in Every Direction

One of the things we loved most about Well-i-Hole Farm was the location.

The countryside views were absolutely gorgeous, with rolling hills and lovely scenery whichever direction you looked.

The campsite is situated close to a fairly busy road, something worth knowing before you arrive, but we personally didn’t find this an issue during our stay.

We spent plenty of time just enjoying the views from the campervan, which is one of our favourite things about getting away for the weekend.

The campsite was light up beautiful at night and lots of picnic benches to use .

Campsite Facilities

The campsite has a reception area, toilets and showers, an indoor washing-up area and facilities for rubbish and waste disposal.

There are four individual toilet and shower rooms, each with its own toilet, shower and washbasin.

The facilities are fairly basic, in a portable cabin-style building, but we found them clean during our visit. Personally, clean facilities are much more important to us than anything fancy!

There is also an indoor pot-washing area, which was clean and tidy. Some of the surrounding areas have a more rustic, work-in-progress feel, which is perhaps understandable with the campsite being under new management.

There is a designated area for bins and waste disposal in one corner of the campsite.

Across the road, there is also a separate entrance to a row of hardstanding pitches.

Another thing we liked was that the campsite gates were locked overnight until morning, which made us feel secure.

Walks Straight From Well-i-Hole Farm Campsite

This was one of the biggest attractions of staying here for us.

We love finding campsites where we can leave the campervan parked up and explore on foot, especially when travelling with our dogs.

From Well-i-Hole Farm, there are some lovely walking options.

Canal walk to Uppermill

You can reach the nearby Huddersfield Narrow Canal and follow the towpath towards the lovely village of Uppermill.

It’s a scenic walk with canal boats, countryside views and the opportunity to stop for a drink or something to eat along the way.

Woodland walk towards Greenfield/Uppermill

There is also a route from the back of the campsite leading through a wooded area towards Greenfield.

We enjoyed exploring this route, and it’s possible to make a circular walk by returning along the canal rather than retracing your steps.

I’ll be putting together a separate guide to the walks we enjoyed from the campsite, including routes, distances and photographs.

Dovestone Reservoir Walk – A Short Drive From the Campsite

Another lovely place to explore while staying at Well-i-Hole Farm is Dovestone Reservoir, approximately 2.5 miles away by road.

You can drive there in just a few minutes, or if you’re feeling energetic, you could walk from the campsite, although this would make it a much longer outing.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk around Dovestone Reservoir, which is approximately 2.5 miles on its own, with the option to extend the route around Yeoman Hey Reservoir for another 1.5 miles.

The scenery is absolutely stunning, with wide gravel paths, plenty of benches and no stiles on the route we took. It’s a lovely dog-friendly walk, although the extended section has some narrower, rocky paths.

I’ve written a separate guide covering our walk, including parking, facilities, photographs and the different route options.

Is Well-i-Hole Farm Good Value?

We paid £56 for two nights with electric hook-up, which worked out at £28 per night.

For us, that felt like good value, particularly considering the location, the lovely views and being able to walk straight from the campsite.

The facilities are fairly simple, but they were clean, and the friendliness of the owners really stood out.

Would We Stay Again?

Yes, we would!

Well-i-Hole Farm is in a lovely location for exploring Uppermill, Greenfield and the surrounding countryside.

The new owners were genuinely welcoming and helpful, particularly when we had our little mishap with the wet grass pitch.

If you prefer luxury campsite facilities, this might not be quite what you’re looking for. But if, like us, you’re happy with clean, practical facilities, beautiful views and good walks from your doorstep, it’s certainly worth considering.

Our highlights: The views, the friendly owners, walks straight from the campsite and good value for money.

Another lovely campervan weekend exploring somewhere new, which is exactly what Van Miles is all about!
